The Department of Archaeology, Government of NCT of Delhi, was established to protect, conserve, and develop Delhi’s lesser-known monuments that are not under the Archaeological Survey of India. It operates under the Delhi Ancient and Historical Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 2004, focusing on documentation, conservation, and maintenance of state-protected monuments. The department also undertakes archaeological excavations, publishes research, and promotes heritage awareness through cultural events and virtual tours. It manages a wide range of heritage structures, including tombs, mosques, baolis, gateways, and colonial buildings.
